Meaning

Steering away from speaking lies is considered as the way to attain higher consciousness and nirvana for an ascetic who wishes to enrich His soul.

Interpretation:

A meaningful life is not measured by acquiring relations or things. True meaning of life is to experience inner peace, also known as contentment. One might have all the facilities and comforts of the world, but if his peace of mind is disturbed, if he is not able to experience inner satisfaction, then all the wealth and luxuries are of no use. They are all in vain.

Everything has some or the other value but inner contentment is priceless. And Bhagwan has showed us a way to attain this inner peace - the one who refrains from speaking lies achieves complete contentment of emotion.

The desire to impress someone by pretending to be someone you are not, gives birth to speaking lies. Sometimes we utter untruthful statements due to anger or fear. And sometimes, we even lie for fun. When we wear the mask of pretence and lies to look good in front of others, we start a chain of multiple lies to cover up for one lie. And to prove the false statement as true, one has to go through tedious unnecessary planning which does not let him stay at peace. One lie can get you temporary success, but you lose your contentment and happiness in exchange. And that’s why, the one who does not speak lies, does not make others speak lies, and does not encourage anyone who does so, invites mental peace and stability in their lives.

To not use false statements guarantees inner peace and contentment, this is the summary of Jain Aagams.
