SHREE UPASAK DASHANG SOOTRA:

Shree UpasakDashang Sutra is the 7th Aṅga Sutra.

The 10 chapters of this sutra illustrate the biography of 10 upasaks or shravaks – (householder with 12 minor-vows).

An Upashak or Shravak is the one who molds his life by worshipping and serving Tirthankars or the ascetics.

Only after passing through the life of a householder, these 10 devotees met Bhagwan Mahavir and on hearing the sermons, they developed faith in religion. They then regularized and restrained their life’s conduct as per Bhagwan’s directives. Also, as a part of the householder’s vows they undertook the 12 vows of a shravak and made their life successful.

From our 32 Aagam scriptures, only this Aagam has a detailed description of the duties of a householder, the vows of a devotee which a householder can adopt and the conduct of a householder’s life. Hence, this Aagam is like a lighthouse for the householders.
